Tips and trics

Your flight

Quite a bit of vacation budget can flow into the plane trip. However, if you look out, you can also do good business here. We are therefore happy to share some concrete tips and tricks.

First of all, the timing of your flight booking is not unimportant. For instance, you can get discounts for an early booking. If you can book several months in advance, early booking discounts are possible. Booking very late can also be interesting. These are called last-minute bookings. Of course, this is not for everyone as many people prefer to plan their holidays and trips well in advance.

In addition, it is recommended to compare. Despite the fact that we recommend booking directly with the airline, websites that search and compare the offers of different airlines can be a useful tool in your search. Websites we regularly use ourselves are:https://www.momondo.com/ https://flightscanner.com/ https://www.skyscanner.es/

Luggage. If you manage to fly with only hand luggage, then that saves a sip on a drink. Some airlines offer the possibility to book extra hand luggage. This is in any case cheaper than booking checked baggage. Or maybe you opt for only 1 x checked baggage. You understand that a little creativity in making your travel suitcase can lead to significant savings. Traveling only with hand luggage also makes you more mobile and that helps with our next tip...

Do not fly directly. Stopover travel can make the overall price cheaper. Take your luggage into account, especially if you were to fly with different airlines. If you are traveling with checked baggage, you must have sufficient time to check in your suitcase again at your stopover. Of course, a stopover is time-intensive. So it must really be worth it.

Do you live in a border region? Then you can consider booking your flights in your neighboring country. There is a real chance that other leave periods apply and the high season is therefore different. In addition, it appears that booking from abroad can also have a positive effect on your price. If this is realistic, check other departure airports.

The rental car

As already mentioned, a rental car is recommended to make your stay at Casa Punta Blanca and your visit to Fuerteventura as comfortable and interesting as possible. We are happy to help you with this too. First of all, we recommend booking directly with the rental company. There are several websites on the market nowadays that compare all lessors and do a good job here. Only, the lessors themselves don't seem to be too happy about this. There are many stories where the customer takes out extra insurance with the comparison site, arrives at the lessor's premises and the lessor tells you that they do not accept this insurance and you still have to give a guarantee of quite a lot of money or take out insurance with them. So if you work with such a comparison site: fine, but get your comprehensive insurance from the rental company itself or provide a solid guarantee.

You can find a few comparison sites here:

Also keep in mind that some landlords claim to be present at the airport but in fact are not. They then work with transfers and are located further away. They are usually slightly cheaper, but you understand that a presence at the airport itself has many advantages. That is why we hereby also provide you with the websites of the lessors who actually have an office at Fuerteventura airport itself. Again, we work in no particular order and do not rate the quality of the service.

We hope these tips and tricks helped you. Hopefully you can use it to your advantage.

To Do's

What to do when visiting Fuerteventura? Simple: enjoy. Of course, everyone defines enjoyment in their own way. That's why we would like to provide you with a few options for activities. Additionally, we invite you to visit our page, Discover Fuerteventura, where you can find and book our selection of organized activities.

Sports

Fuerteventura is sometimes called, with a slight exaggeration, the Hawaii of Europe. The reason? Fuerteventura is the place to be for surfers in Europe. The north of the island in particular has numerous surf spots so that surfing is possible almost 365 days in a year. If you are up to the challenge keep in mind that surfing can be highly addictive, you have been warned. Besides wave surfing, kite and windsurfing are also popular water sports.

Another popular sport is cycling. Generally, a lot of respect is shown to cyclists on the course. Be sure to keep this in mind yourself when driving your car. Moreover, it is a fun way to explore the island. Another way to experience the region is hiking or running. These sports are also often practised.

Shopping

As mentioned earlier, the Canary Islands are actually a duty-free zone. For shopping enthusiasts, this is a boon. Actually, there are 3 ways of shopping:

- Local merchants: You can find several shops in Corralejo. Most of them are located on the main street: Av. Ntra. Sra. del Carmen. Part of this street is car-free. There are shops, bars and restaurants. The shops mainly focus on perfumes, clothes or knick-knacks. It is definitely fun to hang around here and shop for bargains. In Lajares and El Cotillo, on the other hand, you can find more unique shops. Specialty shops that love quality and exclusivity.

- Markets: markets are organised at different locations and times. The El Campanario markets in Corralejo and Lajares are craft markets where local creatives offer their arts for sale. In the south of Lanzarote, the Costa Blanca , there is also the market of Marina Rubicón . This cosy marina area is completely car-free. The streets are a succession of shops, bars and restaurants. Twice a week there is also a big market and, as far as we are concerned, this is the ideal time to visit Marina Rubicon.

- Shopping centres: Finally, you can find several shopping centres in Spain. This is no different in the Canary Islands too. In Fuerteventura, the biggest shopping centre is Las Rotondas in Puerto del Rosario, the island's capital. It is a 30-minute drive from your holiday home Casa Punta Blanca. Here you can find mostly clothing, shoe and jewellery shops.

Vamos a la playa

Stretching for kilometers are the numerous sandy beaches of Fuerteventura, and there are some stunning ones among them. You must take advantage of them. We have created a blog specifically for our guests on visiting the beaches of this idyllic island. You can find the link here:

Out to eat and drink

The options are enormous. Typical are the bakeries where their terraces are crowded every morning by enthusiasts who come to have a coffee and eat something sweet for breakfast. In addition, each village has several food and beverage outlets. Know that in recent years there has been a great increase in Italian influences. A win for those who love Italian cuisine. In addition, there are several tapa bars and quite a few restaurants with the most diverse specialties. You will notice that eating out is a lot cheaper than in Northern and Central Europe. There is also a fairly diverse range of bars. Cocktail and beach bars appeal to many people. Live music is also regularly offered, a guarantee for a pleasant evening.

Discover the islands

It is almost impossible to make a complete list of what you could visit. Allow us to make this selection.

Betancuria: This picturesque mountain village is the former capital of Fuerteventura and is definitely worth a visit. Somehow it feels a bit Provencal.

Cofete: This hidden gem is located in the southwest of the island. From the north you can easily be on the road for 2.5 hours, but if you like South American beach landscapes where the ocean over the beach changes directly to mountains, it is well worth the drive. You can also combine this with the immense windsurfing beach playa Sotavento. So a day of beach hopping.

Isla de Lobos: This almost uninhabited island of 6 km² off the coast of Corralejo falls under the Northern province of La Oliva of Fuerteventura. A visit with a catamaran or sailboat is a great experience. Be surprised by the rich fauna and flora.
