Since our holiday homes are located in the north of Fuerteventura, we will extensively cover the different beaches in this region. Our journey, exploring the breathtaking beaches of Fuerteventura, begins in the northeast, where we admire the sunrise, and ends in the northwest for a stunning sunset.
South of Corralejo, an absolute highlight awaits: the Las Dunas Natural Park. This park stretches over more than 10 kilometers of coastline and offers a succession of beautiful beaches. One of these enchanting beaches is Playa El Moro, the southernmost beach. With rare crowds, its own parking area, and lifeguards, this beach is a hidden gem. Surfers also appreciate this spot when conditions are favorable.
As we continue our journey north, we come across Playa El Bajo Negro, another top location. This beach also has a parking area and lifeguards. Moreover, it is wider and longer than El Moro. From here, a long stretch of beaches begins, extending all the way to Corralejo.
The next beach that deserves our attention is Grandes Playas. This beach is undoubtedly the most visited beach of them all. It is located near the 2 Riu hotels and easily accessible by public transport thanks to a nearby bus stop. This guarded beach is exclusively for bathers, and the gradual slope of the beach plays an important role, making it ideal for water fun with the little ones.
Finally, we arrive at the last extensive beach area of the Dunas, which is divided into three separate beaches: Playa de Viejo, Playa Del Medano, and Playa del Pozo. The last town beach is Playa Del Muelle Chico. This beach is located in the city center, close to many bars and restaurants, making it a popular spot for nightlife later in the day. Additionally, it offers a beautiful view of the Corralejo harbor.
North of the city, a paved off-road road begins that runs along the coastline, known as the North Shore, a surfer's paradise. This road takes you through Majanicho to El Cotillo, and along the way, you'll come across a series of top-notch surf spots. The first beach you encounter on this road is definitely worth a visit: Popcorn Beach. The millions of tiny calcareous algae that cover the beach strongly resemble popcorn and are an attraction in themselves.

At the end of the North Shore and just before reaching the El Cotillo lighthouse, we find two beaches: Playa El Marrajo and Playa de Los Charcos. As we continue driving along the coastline towards El Cotillo, we come across another series of tranquil beaches. The largest, most famous, and also the only guarded beach is Playa La Concha. This spacious beach has a gently sloping shoreline and is protected by two natural rock formations, which serve as perfect breakwaters.
Now we find ourselves back in civilization, where we immediately come across two more beaches: Playas de El Cotillo and Playa Los Lagos. These beaches are also very popular for enjoying a fascinating sunset.
As we cross El Cotillo, we arrive at the beginning of the beautiful West Coast, characterized by impressive cliffs. We are immediately treated to the phenomenal 1.5-kilometer-long beach, Piedra Playa. This beach offers something for everyone and is divided into specific sections for swimmers, wind and kite surfers, and surfers. However, be cautious as the waves and currents can be quite powerful here. If you go swimming, make sure to always stay in contact with the seafloor.
As we continue heading south, we go off-road once again. At the top of the cliffs, there is also a hiking trail that starts at the end of Piedra Playa and takes you to the next two beaches. The first one is Playa del Aguila, also known as La Escalera Beach or the Staircase Beach. This beach is only accessible via a staircase along the cliff edges, providing a unique experience and rewarding you with a visit to a beautiful beach.
As we continue our journey, we finally reach Playa Esquinzo. What makes this beach special is that the Barranco de Esquinzo, an almost completely dried-up river, flows into it.
Finally, there is one more beach left, which is easiest to reach via Tyndaya: Playa de Jarugo. Once again, a beautiful wide and long beach that, being further away from civilization, is quite peaceful. This beach is also definitely worth spending an afternoon at.
